Managing Director attendance at ICoTA Europe lunch and learn

Managing Director Andrew Mosley was pleased to attend the ICoTA Europe lunch and learn session on the 24th January in Aberdeen which was hosted by the winners of the 2016 Innovation Award, Shell, Helix Well Ops and Altus Intervention. The session discussed the innovative subsea coiled tubing intervention riser system which was designed for the Well Enhancer vessel. The development of this system and success of the initial operations campaign was recognised as a significant step in the continued development of intervention by the oil and gas industry.

AS Mosley was contracted to perform global riser analysis in support of the design of the intervention system and were pleased to hear directly about the success of the initial offshore campaign conducted in 2016 from all parties.

AS Mosley provided site specific global riser analysis in support of the Central North Sea coiled tubing operations for the operator and for a number of other prospective fields. The Well Enhancer was custom designed with a dynamically positioned well intervention and saturation diving system. The vessel includes provision for Wireline operations through a 7 3/8 u201d 10K Subsea Intervention Lubricator (SIL) and for coiled tubing operations through a 5 1/8 u201d 10K Intervention Riser System (IRS). This is the first coiled tubing development of its kind within the oil and gas industry and is a significant step in the continued development of the intervention industry. Already there is more interest from other operators to follow on from this campaign with riser-based coiled tubing intervention. Looking forward, there is great potential for riser-based coiled tubing intervention to be a growth area within the industry.

AS Mosley Managing Director to speak at OWI Conference

The Managing Director of a specialist engineering consultancy which provides bespoke analysis and design services to the offshore oil and gas industry will be one of the keynote speakers at this week’s Offshore Well Intervention Conference in Aberdeen.

Andrew Mosley of Aberdeenshire-based AS Mosley will speak on the topic of ‘Minimising Wellhead Loads during Intervention and P&A Campaigns’.

A highly topical presentation, Andrew will discuss the benefits of lightweight intervention in relation to wellhead integrity alongside providing a detailed comparison of intervention equipment. He will also share some of his thoughts on SIL (Subsea Intervention Lubricator) operations and the options for reducing loads through this system.

A mix of conference and workshop sessions, the annual Offshore Well Intervention Conference is in its third year and will take place within the Hilton Treetops in Aberdeen from April 26-28.

This year’s programme has been developed through more than 40 primary research calls with leading intervention innovators who are challenging traditional methodologies to provide greater efficiencies within intervention and P&A.

Andrew Mosley said: “The OWI conference in Aberdeen has established itself as the leading European conference in all things related to well intervention and I’m looking forward to being part of what is a diverse and unique line-up of speakers who will be presenting at the event.

“My presentation, entitled ‘Minimising Wellhead Loads during Intervention and P&A Campaigns’, will share some of my own thoughts on the benefits of lightweight intervention and will touch on our findings through past experiences.

“Wellhead fatigue is becoming an increasingly important issue in offshore drilling given the level of aging assets currently in operation therefore it is essential to highlight the different options available to minimise any impact that intervention may have.”

Founded in 1997, AS Mosley has grown steadily since inception, providing high end, bespoke engineering analysis and design services to operators, manufacturers and service organisations worldwide.

With a range of engineering capabilities including global riser analysis, well integrity, conductor assessment and lightweight intervention, it is committed to supporting subsea oil and gas operations to be conducted safely in what are often harsh environments.

Consisting of a mix of engineering and project management work, both Heshan and David are responsible for overseeing projects from start to finish alongside ensuring solutions are delivered within expected time and cost constraints.

David’s development has been further recognised after he recently achieved chartered engineer status, with assessors praising his mix of internal and external training as a contributing factor. He said: “I am very pleased to have been promoted to the role of Senior Analysis Engineer and I’m grateful that my hard work and commitment to AS Mosley has been rewarded in this way.

“The team at AS Mosley has supported me along every step of the way, funding my attendance at numerous external training courses in addition to always being on-hand with help and advice within the workplace. This help has been instrumental in achieving chartered engineer status.

“I have gained considerable engineering experience in my time at AS Mosley which has helped build a solid foundation for my own personal development. This has allowed me to effectively step up to a senior role and I’m looking forward to playing a part in future success of the business.”

Heshan added: “AS Mosley has been very supportive in allowing me to develop my own skills throughout my time working for the company and I’m grateful for the help that I’ve had in allowing me to get where I am today.

“If I had one piece of advice for anyone thinking of stepping into the engineering sector, it would be to seriously consider pursuing a role within the oil and gas sector. There is opportunity to develop new technical methodologies and solutions, resulting in real contributions to the industry. My time within the sector has enabled me to develop new skills and gain experience working on what are often challenging and diverse projects.”
